Pretty Plant Display

I’ve always loved succulents and for a few years now, I’ve wanted to make my own little terrarium or succulent garden. I kept putting it off because I wanted to find a cool glass home for it and thought about something like this or…these, but you might know by now, I’m not spending that kind of money.

Yesterday, I gathered up some succulents that I already had and pulled out a dessert bowl I was given as a wedding gift. It took seven years for this guy to come out of the cabinet.

I just played around with this project, something I need to allow myself to do more often.

This project was meant more for fun and beauty as this will only be the succulents temporary home. I wanted to try mixing woodland moss with these desert succulents because I love the look. The boys got involved in this project as the rock collectors and dirt packers.

A mix of playing in the sprinkler and making pretty plant displays ( Of course, they saw it more as digging in the dirt).

It was dinner time so we called it quits and brought it inside.
But after eating, I wasn’t satisfied with the look so I took a spoon and went rummaging through the wooded area behind my house–scooping up some fantastic ground covering moss.

I love it sitting on the bench in front of the widow seal.But let’s be real, I have a 2 and 4yr old and they have male parts. This pretty thang doesn’t stand a chance here.

But then again, the boys are growing very aware that you don’t mess with momma’s creations.

I look forward to finding these guys a permanent home where they can live long lives (The succulents…not my boys. This home is pretty permanent for them.)

Warrior Dash 2013

This past weekend I did the Warrior Dash in Amity, Arkansas. A few months ago my friends who have a family Zipline business, asked if I would be interested running the race on their team FOR FREE! — I begged, “Please, Please, Please!!! Before this race, I couldn’t stomach spending money on such events, but now I get it. I had a BLAST!! I’m hooked.

Four days before the race, I took a spill down my stairs. I know now not to wear socks walking down carpeted stairs, and I know now that I’m not as resilient as I thought. My butt bounced down three stairs and then I propelled forward and folded at the stairs landing. PAIN!! I laid there at the bottom in a fit of laughter and tears. Nothing like a good fall to make you feel alive.

I’m still not sure if it’s just a deep bruise or if I chipped my tailbone. Either way, the recovery is the same: sit on donut, ice it, and ibuprofen and…avoid running obstacle races. But I couldn’t resist and honestly, the obstacles didn’t interfere with my coccyx too much. My adrenaline kicked in, and I lost some feeling down there. No worries, I regained it on the way home.

These days, I’m driving on boppy pillow with a cold compress shoved in my crack. I’m living the sweet sweet life.

In true Warrior fashion–This was mild in comparison to all of the others who were comfortable in their own skin…and speedos.These two… I like ‘em! Molly and Tony are the ones that hooked me up in running with their Zip Line team. My next goal is to take a trip out to their Zip Lines. It’s a 7 zip line course that includes hiking to get to each one. On their site you can check out the videos of their courses– looks incredible! I gotta!Tony, Molly, and MeFwands. Our Zip Line logo. Woodworks of the World–for Mugs Cafe

Well since I’m in full swing of a new project, I think I can share it with all of you now.

Some of my friends are opening a coffee shop in Argenta, Arkansas next door to the Argenta Market. One of the guys is Cliff, whom was on the blog a few months ago because of his pretty voice.

I’m drawn to the Argenta area– seeing the city rediscover itself with new small businesses and creative venues makes me giddy. When I think of Argenta, I think of authenticity and community. It’s a curious city on the brink of finding its niche. And I’m so grateful to be apart of it all as Mugs Cafe opens with the purpose of building relationships and pouring life into anyone who walks through their doors.

They invited me to help with the interior design of the coffee shop, and while collaborating over a couple of months they shot me a text of this image as an idea of an installed art piece of the continents that they liked. I wanted to make it happen.

We wanted the center of the piece to be between Russia and Alaska. So with the help of my friend Caleb who helped me with my headboard, we began the piece by projecting the continents onto a wall. 10ft X 20ft
I was up at my church late at night ignoring all of the unsettling sounds and tracing continents on plywood. Those 4×8 sheets are awkwardly long and heavy to handle on my own.
Africa. Duh.

I finally finished cutting out all of the continents by myself as I had time. And this is where I am right now. They are cut and I’m collecting wood, tin, and iron to layer onto the plywood. Man, I’m loving this!!!
